The views from the top of the sand dunes are some of the best in East Lothian — definitely worth the climb! For a tasty treat, head to nearby Tyninghame Village and enjoy delicious food at the village café.
- Shorter Option: Cycle to Waypoint 1, lock up your bikes, and walk over the sand dunes to the beach. If you’ve had your fill of beaches, you can simply enjoy cycling through the peaceful woods instead.

- Start/End: Balgone Estate – park at metal gate where you join the John Muir Way.
- Distance: ~5 km

- Shorter Option: Perfect just as a short out-and-back ride with time to enjoy a lakeside picnic. Or you can stop off at the Herd Cafe which is just up the hill- open at weekends only.
5. John Muir Way: Whitekirk Hill to North Berwick
- Start: Whitekirk on the Hill
- End: North Berwick
- Distance: ~5 km
- Highlights: A gentle downhill ride with coastal views into North Berwick. There is a fabulous cafe and soft play at Whitekirk on the hill.
- Shorter Option: Enjoy a gentle ride or walk through the beautiful grounds surrounding Whitekirk Hill, where mowed trails wind through the former golf course. It’s a peaceful place to explore by bike, with a lovely picnic spot beside a scenic pond.
6. North Berwick to Dirleton via John Muir Way
